Support for Individuals
Across the Lifespan Support
Whilst I have specialised in the areas of loss and intergenerational trauma, I particularly value early intervention and offer support to anyone who is in need of a confidential self-reflective space making sense of and making the (self-defined) best of one’s life. I work particularly well with those who feel their experiences are unspeakable and incomprehensible to those around them and for whom it is hard to find safe spaces to discuss and explore what is on their mind. Some will describe these as contextual difficulties, others as mental health concerns. Your language and meaning making around your difficulties and resolving these will be privileged and explored with curiosity and respect.
In a society that seems increasingly prescriptive and pathologising, I would like to normalise the need to work on the inevitable dilemmas that occur for all of us at some stage across our lifetime, particularly if your context is not designed to empower people like you. It is unhelpful to feel judged or at fault for not having a perfect life or feeling perpetually at peace. I find proactive preventative work on our difficulties is almost always more fruitful.
Just as everyone should feel enabled and have permission to have help and support, I am equally keen to see no-one as beyond help and support. I have worked with people who have had and continue to have some really difficult experiences. My view of normality has become very broad and inclusive and post traumatic growth is incredible to witness. I firmly believe that single experiences do not define us or our future.
I draw on systemic and trauma-informed knowledge and endeavour to bring cultural humility into my work. I recognise that I might not be the best person for each client's needs and part of our assessment is around discussing alternative options and making choices around your therapeutic journey.
Structure of Assessment and Support
We begin with 1-2 sessions to see if we might be a good fit in working together, to collaboratively formulate key concerns and goals, and to agree how many sessions we might need before reviewing progress. Interventions are largely focused on working towards stabilisation and/or change and so we will constantly review whether you feel the work is beneficial and I feel I am able to offer you what you need.
