Consultations to other Professionals and Networks
My systemic approach, conceptualising problems and their solutions in the context of relationships and other socio-political contexts, is particularly relevant when it comes to complex professional systems around young people. Often when we are working in contexts of trauma and loss, professional relationships can mirror those of the families we are seeking to help. We need to be mindful of differing power and responsibilities within sometimes very large professional networks. I am frequently asked to facilitate stuck, disappointed, or conflicted professional networks who benefit from a separate outsider (or meta-position) perspective when they are having dilemmas around how best to move forward.
Some examples of consultations to professions that I offer are:
- Individual or small group consultation and supervision to front-line professionals (e.g. Teachers, social workers, mentors, police) around how best to mentalise and support struggling and traumatised young people and families in an anti-oppressive, child-centred, psychologically informed way.
- Helping to facilitate systems in conflict to repair and co-parent in the best interests of their young people and families. This might be through whole/partial system reflecting and planning meetings or non-violent resistant (NVR) informed interventions.
- Support to professionals (either individually, in teams, or small groups) around experiences of vicarious trauma.
See also ongoing workshops, supervision and reflective space. I offer these (some together with a colleague from the Global Majority) with a particularly focus on anti-oppressive practice and using systemic principles and self-reflexivity in front line practice.
